The Accountant

Plot: Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. With the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (J.K. Simmons), starting to close in, Christian takes on a legitimate client: a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. But as Christian uncooks the books and gets closer to the truth, it is the body count that starts to rise.

In my opinion this is one of the most boring movies I have seen this year. I found the plot quite basic and very cliché. The trailer was more exciting than the actual film.

My Visit to Newcastle

 

I recently visited Newcastle university for their open day and campus tour. Newcastle is about 3 hours away from London by train.  The city was very cold and wet. I liked the city at first site because of its very traditional yet modern architecture. While walking from the station to the university campus I realised that most of the people living within the city were students. The university campus covers about 50 acres and is located on the north-west corner of the city centre. I got to take a tour around the university and got a chance to see their facilities and even sat in on a lecture. While touring the student union building I had an opportunity to speak with student who are currently student the course I intend to do. Overall, it was a good experience for me to see and get an idea of the city of Newcastle and the university.

My Foundation English Classes

Foundation English skills is one the modules I am studying this term as part of my business foundation course. So far we have been studying notes & summary and compare skills. I have found this interesting, In my previous schools, we didn’t focus as much on English language skills but more towards English literature, which I personally disliked and found quite boring. During lessons we are taught by going through text and listening to recordings, I like this method of teaching as it tends to keep the student concentrated rather than when the teacher just talks and tells the student what to do. The part of my English classes I dislike are the reading exercises because I find it boring unlike the listening which is my favourite part. I have found my English classes relatively easy at times over the term.

My Business Foundation Course

I am currently studying Business foundation at Bellerbys college, Brighton. This term I am studying the Economics 1, Accounting, CIT and Foundation English. Overall, I think it has been going well. However, when I stated accounting at the beginning of the term. I found it confusing as I was mixing up debts and credits during double entry bookkeeping. After my first week I started getting more familiar with what I been taught. My other classes have been going well especially economics which I have a great interest in and enjoy studying. I feel that so far I have a reasonable understanding of the modules I am studying, However i think that I need to go through what I have been taught outside the lesson to get a further understanding.

Studying in the UK and Nigeria

There aren’t many difference for me studying here in the United Kingdom as compared to my home country Nigeria. This is mainly because I went to a British school for 9 years. However, in the Nigerian curriculum you study for 12 years before going to university instead of the 13 years of education in the U.K. There tends to be an average of about 20 students in my previous school’s classroom. I believe it gives the teacher less time with the students individually and could cause some of them to fall behind in the topic they are studying.

My First Week

 

On Monday 19^th September, I arrived at Bellerbys in Brighton. It was a completely new place with new people and no one I know or have met before. Brighton wasn’t what I expected, there were so many people of different cultures which you will notice as soon as you step outside the train station. When I first arrived I wasn’t sure what to ecpect. On my first night I could barely sleep, which is the same for me the first time i’m in anyplace. The next morning, I had a tour of the college and I honestly couldn’t remember most of the things I was told, they all went in one ear and out the other. When it was time for my first lesson I was so confused, I didn’t where to go or what to take with me.

Over the week however I got much more comfortable. I think the first week in any place is always the hardest but after that you get yourself familiar with the environment and the people it gets much better
